Boot Heel Replacement Services
Bearing the brunt of every step we take, the heels of boots are notorious for wearing down faster than other parts of boots — to the point where, before we know it, the heels are so worn that our balance and posture while walking is affected. However, a worn pair of heels does not spell the end of a pair of boots. Boot heels can generally be repaired or replaced as needed, and usually with heel caps or blocks made from materials that are far more durable than those from which the original heels were made.
We perform all sorts of boot heel replacements, whether involving the whole of the heel blocks or only the heel caps (the layers at the tips of the heel blocks). In all cases, we use heels made from premium leather and rubber by the likes of Vibram in Italy, TOPY in France, Dainite and Itshide in the United Kingdom, and JR Rendenbach in Germany.
Heel Caps
Most heel blocks on boots have layers of rubber or combinations of rubber and leather at their tips — these are referred to as ‘heel caps’. The heel caps gradually wear down, leaving the heels sitting at a slight angle, with the greatest wear typically happening around the back of the heels. It can be easy to miss this sort of wear, but it is important to avoid wearing beyond the heel caps into the heel blocks themselves — whereas replacing heel caps involves reasonably straightforward work, repairing or replacing heel blocks can become fairly expensive.
Heel Blocks
The heel blocks on boots can be repaired or replaced as needed, including where the heels are worn into beyond the heel caps or where the heel blocks are damaged by an accident or simply due for a refresh or alteration.
Heel Block Leveling
When heel blocks are lightly worn into, we build them up — adding small pieces of leather or rubber — to level the heels (i.e. make them sit flat) before installing new heel caps.
Heel Block Reconstruction / Replacement
When heel blocks are severely worn into, we replace the heel blocks, reconstructing them with the installation of a series of leather or rubber 'heel stacks' followed by new heel caps.
Heel Block Re-covering / Re-wrapping
When the leather with which the heel blocks are covered or wrapped is damaged, we re-cover / re-wrap the heel blocks with entirely new leather.
Half Block Alterations
For comfort or aesthetics, we replace heel blocks to change their shape or else alter heel blocks — shortening and heightening them as needed.

Frequently Asked Questions
It's all very quick and easy — promise!
- Complete our online order form, where you'll be able to upload photos and describe the work you'd like done to the boots. You'll get an instant quote based on your selection and then choose to either proceed with an order or request a custom quote.
- Once we've reviewed your order, we'll email you instructions for getting your boots to us. If you live in Sydney, you'll have the option to drop the boots off at our workshop. Otherwise, you'll be able to drop them off at a local Australia Post office, where they'll be packaged and shipped over to us for free.
- Once we receive your boots, we'll repair / replace the heels and return the boots to you by courier.
The cost of a boot heel replacement varies significantly depending on the actual work performed. A heel cap replacement can cost as little as $59, whereas a complete heel block replacement can cost as much as $179. This pricing range covers the vast majority of boot heel repair / replacement services.
However, in all cases, the exact cost depends largely on the materials used and factors affecting the amount of time required to perform the work. For example, having to recolour / refinish heel blocks to restore lost colour can add to the standard cost of a heel repair. And opting for premium JR Rendenbach or Dainite heel caps, rather than a regular Vibram heel caps, adds $20–30 to the total cost of the work.
Simply complete our order form to get a free diagnosis/quote based on your particular requirements.
The time it takes to complete a heel replacement varies depending on the particular work required and the workload in the workshop when the boots are received.
We are generally able to complete basic heel replacements within 2-5 business days of receiving boots at the workshop. This extends to 1-2 weeks for most specialist repairs and longer for more complex repairs and restorations.
If you will be using our free shipping service (rather than dropping off and picking up your boots at the workshop), then you should also factor in shipping time via Australia Post. This varies depending on your location, but generally takes no more than a few business days if you're in a metropolitan area and otherwise up to 5 business days (if you're in a regional or remote area).
Once you submit your online order form, you'll be given a token that allows you to track everything online, throughout the process of getting the heels repaired or replaced on your boots.
And whenever your boots are in transit (whether on their way to our workshop via Australia Post or on the way back to you via courier), you'll have a parcel tracking number and receive real-time shipping notifications by email.
Yes, you can drop off and pick up your boots at our workshop in Martin Place, Sydney provided that:
- You first complete your order online;
- You let us know (in the order form or by follow up email) that you'd like to drop off and/or pick up at the workshop; and
- We have emailed you a ticket that you'll need to print out and hand over at the workshop for ID and proof of payment.
