The boots
The soles on these Wolverine 1000 miles boots were well-worn and in need of replacement. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to perform a full resole, replacing the rubber heel caps and the leather soles with entirely new parts.
Full resole
We began by peeling off the old rubber heel caps and the old leather heel blocks. The leather soles on these boots were stitched into welt — a separate strip of leather connecting the the uppers to the outer soles. As such, we were able to remove the outer soles without otherwise tampering with the uppers or footbeds / inner soles. Having removed the outer soles, we were able to then repair the worn cork layer on the interior of the boots and stitch into place (into the original welt) a new pair of full-length leather soles.
We then nailed the original leather heel blocks back into place and installed over the top of them a new pair of durable rubber heel caps. With these parts in place, we then carefully sanded down the excess leather and rubber around the edges to produce a smooth finish and finally finished the edges and the face of each sole with a neutral (non-coloured) leather cream — both to darken the leather and protect it from scuffing.
Leather polishing
We polished the leather uppers with neutral waxes and creams, to buff out the scuffing as much as possible and get the boots looking and feeling much fresher.
