The handbag
This strap and top binding on this Gucci Jackie 1961 bag was extensively cracking and torn. When the customer reached out us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to replace the strap and binding with entirely new, custom-made parts.
Strap replacement
We began by carefully removing the cracked binding and straps from the bag. Setting these aside, we selected a new hide of high-quality leather that closely matched the original. We then custom-made an entirely new strap for the bag, following the design of original — including the white protective edging along the sides. We also attached the original, Gucci-branded hardware to the new strap before then stitching the strap to the body of the bag.
Binding replacement
We started by removing the cracked binding from the top edge of the bag. We then cut the new leather to size and stitched it into place around the top of the bag, before the new strap was installed. We used the same leather we previously selected for the strap, to ensure the new pieces matched.
