The sneakers
The soles on these Veja V-10 shoes were heavily worn, and the leather uppers were looking dirty and discoloured. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we resoled the shoes and cleaned, conditioned and recoloured the leather.
Resole
These sneakers (like most sneakers) are made with cup soles. These are custom moulded to fit the uppers almost perfectly, so replacing them without compromising the original aesthetic is near impossible. For this reason, the best option here was to repair the original soles, rebuilding where they were worn (with pieces of rubber) to level them off, and then installing a pair of full-length rubber soles over the top.
For these shoes, we used TOPY rubber made in France and a great choice for sneakers due to its durable but flexible and lightweight rubber composition.
Colour restoration
We began by cleaning and conditioning the shoes, including the laces and the sidewalls of the rubber soles. This allowed us to clear away accumulated dirt and other debris from the surface of the shoes, and prepare the leather for the recolouring process.
Once the shoes were clean and dry, we mixed a shade of white based on the existing and used it to recolour the leather throughout the uppers. In this case, it was necessary to recolour throughout the leather uppers (rather than just the discoloured areas) to ensure a consistent finish. We also carefully re-drew the faded Veja branding around the back of the shoes with a fine brush.
Finally, we treated the shoes with a specialist sealant that helps to both seal in the new colour and protect the leather from water damage / stains going forward.
