SoleHeeled offers convenient and affordable Herring boot repairs by Australia’s best craftsmen, with free shipping to your door. This case study outlines how we recently repaired a customer’s Herring boots.
The boots
The leather soles on these Herring Chelsea boots were already visibly worn after only one wear. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to enhance both longevity and traction by installing flush metal toe plates alongside rubber sole protectors.
Protective sole installation
Leather soles are a popular choice among those with premium footwear, but they tend to wear down fairly quickly with regular wear in most environments (e.g. concrete pavements). Rubber sole protectors allow the wearer to maintain the look and much of the dressy feel of leather soles while improving longevity and traction.
The process involved carefully sanding down the original soles to create a ‘bed’ into which the rubber sole protectors could be installed and sit flush with the rest of the leather soles further back. We then adhered new TOPY rubber sole protectors into place.
Toe plate installation
Toe plates are also a popular choice when it comes to protecting leather-soled shoes, as they provide an added layer of protection at the toes, where soles wear down the fastest. These plates can be installed on their own or alongside rubber sole protectors — as they were in this case.
To install the toe plates and ensure they sat flush with the rubber sole protectors further back, we carefully cut into the sole protectors before screwing the plates into place and then finishing the edges. In this case, we installed brass Triumph toe plates made in Germany.
