The boots

The soles and heels on these Joseph Cheaney & Sons Hanover Balmoral boots were looking well worn and in need of a refresh. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to perform a full resole and reheel with premium, Joh Rendenbach leather replacement parts.

Full resole and reheel with JR leather

We began by removing the old soles from the welt (the leather layer that lies between the soles and uppers, where the soles are stitched into place) and the old quarter-rubber heel caps from the heel blocks.

We then installed the new full-length leather soles, stitching them carefully into the welt. We then replaced the heel caps with new quarter-rubber heels and nailed these into place with brass nails similar to the originals. Quarter-rubber heel caps like these are popular because they retain the premium ‘leather look’ of the boots but come with the added benefit of durable rubber in those parts of the heels that wear fastest. Once the new soles and heels were in place, we sanded them down to fit the original shape of the boots and polished them as a finishing touch to seal and protect the leather.

We used premium Joh Rendenbach (aka JR) parts in this case. These are often preferred by customers who wear premium dress shoes or boots, because they offer exceptional comfort and significantly better longevity (and therefore, fewer resoles) for the wearer.
