The boots

These Hermès Neo ankle boots were almost brand new, but the leather soles and heels were unprotected and immediately began to show signs of wear / discolouration after only a few wears. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to re-contour the leather soles and heels and install a pair of premium sole and heel protectors.

Sole and heel protector installation

We began by smoothing out the existing leather soles and quarter-rubber heels to create a ‘bed’ for the protectors. This helps to smooth the leather and ensure that the protectors are flush with the existing soles and heels (rather than raised and likely detract from the original, seamless profile of the boots).

We then selected a pair of premium sole protectors that are available in a nude colour and a premium, silk / satin finish. These Italian-made, Casali protectors are a popular choice for owners of premium footwear — in that they retain their colour while worn, significantly enhance both durability and traction, and tend to blend in more seamlessly with the original leather soles and heels

The heels on these boots are quarter rubber (meaning the back portion is rubber and the front portion leather). This is a premium design feature that help to increase the durability of the heels by placing rubber where they tend to wear down fastest. While this meant the back, rubber portion of the heels were protected, the leather portion was exposed to wear. We ended up reheeling these boots, custom creating a new pair of heel caps — made from a black rubber similar to the original and the same, premium Casali protective rubber used for the sole protectors.
