The bag
The straps on this Oroton Textured Leather Tote were in bad shape, with the leather cracking and splitting around the middle of the handle. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to replace the straps with entirely new pair of saffiano leather straps.
Saffiano leather strap replacement
We began by removing the damaged straps and measuring their dimensions — particularly the length and width of the straps. This was to make sure that the replacement straps would fit as closely to the original straps as possible and helped to minimise any loss of factory finish.
The original straps were made from black, saffiano leather ( a type of leather known for it’s unique criss-cross texture). So we sourced a fresh hide of saffiano leather from Italy.
We then cut a pair of new straps to size from the hide and fused two layers of this leather together — with the textured sides facing outwards. We then carefully finished the edges of the straps with a black wax that helped to seal the edges and protect them against wear. We finally stitched the new straps into place on the body of the bag.
