The bag
This Louis Vuitton Neverfull had seen better days, with the leather binding and strapping visibly worn and the monogram canvas around the bottom corners worn through. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to replace the leather parts and alter the bag to remove the damaged canvas.
Leather replacement
We began by removing the worn leather parts from around the bag — including the top binding, the side straps, and the top straps. We used these parts as templates in crafting entirely new parts based on the design of the originals and from a premium brown leather like the original. We then proceeded to stitch these parts into place in those areas from which the original parts had been removed.
Corner repair
This repair involved deconstructing the bag around the bottom and then cutting off a strip of canvas around the whole perimeter of the bag at the bottom. This strip was just wide enough to allow for all of the damaged canvas to be removed. We then reconstructed the bottom of the bag, re-stitching the seams as they were originally — except with no damaged canvas alongside them.
There are a few different options when it comes to repairing worn canvas around the bottom corners of bags such as this one. In this case, the damage was reasonably discrete, being limited to the canvas just above the piping, and the customer preferred to avoid an alteration that would have affected the bag’s original aesthetic — e.g. the installation of the protective leather pockets around the bottom corners. So altering the bag to removed just the damaged canvas was the best option in this case.
