The handbag
This Louis Vuitton Alma BB handbag was relatively new but suffered a serious burn from a candle, damaging the vachetta leather around the bottom of the bag. When this customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to entirely replace the vachetta leather around the bottom of the bag.
Leather base replacement
We started off by undoing the stitching around the base of the bag in order to remove it entirely. We then deconstructed the base, undoing all the folds and removing the base pegs and the leather tabs to which they were attached at the base of the bag.
We then took a fresh vachetta leather hide and cut pieces of leather to match the original pieces we’d removed. And we finally arranged these pieces together as the original pieces had been previously before stitching everything back into place.
While only one side of the bag’s base had been burned, we decided it would be best to replace all of the vachetta leather — these leathers tend to become darker over time and so replacing one piece of leather without replacing the remaining pieces to which it is attached would have caused it to stand out.
