The boots

Blundstone boots are work boots constructed to work as hard as their wearers do, bearing the brunt of hard labour on worksites across the country. However, the rubber unit soles on this pair had begun to disintegrate, beyond repair. When this customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to replace the soles with a pair of new Vibram rubber soles.

Full resole

Blundstone boot resoles are harder than they look. Unfortunately, the boots are not constructed in such a way that facilitates resoles — in particular, the boots don’t have a welt (a layer of leather between the rubber soles and leather uppers) into which a new pair of soles can be stitched. Rather, the soles on Blundstones are fused into the uppers.

What we end up needing to do to resole Blundstone boots is:

  1. Remove the old soles, carefully so as to avoid damaging the bottom of the uppers.

  2. Install a ‘randing’, to live between the uppers and the new rubber soles as a sub-sole of sorts, in place of a welt.

  3. Attach a new pair of rubber soles, glueing them against the randing with a heavy duty, but flexible glue.

In this case, we used Italian-made Vibram rubber soles, which are heavy treaded to offer superior traction and made of a high-grade rubber compound for optimal longevity.
