This Valentino Daphne studded leather handbag became essentially unusable when the strap connector (aka strap mount) tore, leaving the strap with nothing to hook into. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to craft a replacement strap connector from a fresh piece of leather and stitched that into place.
Strap connector repair
We started off by removing the old strap connector, unstitching it from the body of the bag. While we generally prefer to repair rather than replace (usually by reinforcing the original leather), the leather in this case had become too soft to sustainably repair.
We then carefully cut a new strap connector from a fresh piece of premium pebbled leather similar to the existing, inserted a replacement gold ring (into which the removable crossbody strap clips) and stitched that in place of the old strap connector, following the original stitching lines.
