The piping on one of the corners around the bottom of this Louis Vuitton handbag had worn through, showing the plastic interior piping and leaving the remainder of the piping dangerously exposed to further tearing. Piping repair
We started off by cleaning the piping around the area where it was torn — the purpose being to remove any dirt that had entered the gaps between the leather and the interior plastic piping and ensuring that the leather was clean before we repaired over the top of it. We then filled the gaps in the piping with a leather filler, to hold the plastic piping in place and eliminate any gaps that would leave the leather loose and liable to tear. We then cut a thin piece of leather coloured to blend in with the colour of the leather around the piping and lightly treated for further resistance against wear/abrasion, and finally glued that leather carefully onto the piping, covering up the tear and further reinforcing the area to prevent further damage.
