The bag
This Lady Dior bag was looking a little worse for wear, with the leather heavily scuffed, discoloured and tearing. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to reinvigorate the bag by cleaning, conditioning and then custom recolouring / refinishing the leather.
Leather colour restoration
We started by thoroughly cleaning and then conditioning the leather throughout the bag to remove any accumulated dirt and impurities on the leather’s surface. We then custom mixed a colour based on the original (undamaged) leather and carefully applied the pigment to the discoloured leather around the bottom corners and the panels on either side of the zipper. We applied the colour in thin, even coats, allowing plenty of time to dry between layers, to ensure a consistent and smooth finish. After the colour had dried, we applied a protective coating to seal in the colour and provide a layer of protection against future wear and tear.
Tear repair
Unfortunately, the leather on the handles was also damaged. Given the broader condition of the handles, the best option here was to restore the leather as far as possible.
We began by carefully glueing down the loose leather, and then using a specialist leather filler to smooth around the gaps as much as possible before finally recolouring / refinishing the leather — using the same colour we custom mixed for the restoration work around the rest of the bag. While this did not fully restore the leather, as light outlines of the tears remained visible to a degree, this work allowed us to minimise their visibility and prevent further wear around the damaged leather.
