The shoes
The soles on these Church’s Burwood Oxford brogues had been protected but were looking aged and unlikely to last much longer, while the heel caps in particular were worn and starting to tear around the leather. When this customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to perform a full re-sole, replacing the heels and soles along the entire length of each shoe with new rubber heels and single-piece leather soles (like the originals).
Full leather re-sole
We started off by removing the heel blocks and the soles, unstitching them from the welt (the layer of leather that sits between the soles and the leather uppers). We then took a piece of premium leather made especially for the soles on high-end shoes like these and cut them to shape before stitching them into place (into the welt) and then sanding down the leather carefully around the sides.
Re-heel
We then removed the quarter rubber heel caps (the outer layers made three-quarters of leather and a quarter of rubber) from the heel blocks and replaced them with new, longer lasting full rubber heel caps. We then reattached the heel blocks to the soles.
