The shoes
These Church’s Oslo derby shoes were brand new and not in need of any particular repair, but the original leather soles were unprotected and therefore susceptible to quickly wearing down with everyday wear. When this customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to protect the leather soles with a pair of thin rubber sole protectors.
Sole protector installation
We start by creating a narrow heel bed, carefully sanding down the front half of the leather soles without undermining the stitching around the sides. We then cut a pair of thin rubber sole protectors (about 1mm thin) and glue them down into the depressed heel bed. We slice the ends of the sole protectors so that they sit flush with the rest of the soles, and we carefully shape the edges of the sole protectors to match the shape of the leather soles.
