These Sophia Webster Rosalind sandals are of course the perfect pair for a special night out, but the heels were a little too tall for the wearer. When this customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to shorten the heels.

Heel block shortening

We started by removing the heel tips to inspect the inside of the heel blocks. Upon confirming the heel blocks can be shortened, we proceeded to saw off the required amount for the bottom of each heel block. We then installed a new pair of heel tips.

Most heel blocks can be shortened, but the amount that can be removed is often limited by two factors:

  1. Some heel blocks contain metal rods that prevent shortening above a certain amount — the reason being that attempting to cut this rod could undermine the structural integrity of the heel blocks.

  2. Removing too much from the height of a heel block can cause the shoes too point too far upward at the toes, making the shoes uncomfortable and difficult to walk in.
