The shoes
The heel blocks on these Prada Embroidered sandals were chewed by a naughty pip, leaving the leather heavily gouged and the shoes visibly worn. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we re-wrapped the heel blocks with new saffiano leather like the original.
Heel block re-wrap
Damaged leather around heel blocks can often be repaired and restored, usually by glueing down the loose leather, using a specialist leather filler to smooth around the gaps, and then recolouring / refinishing the leather. However, considering the extent of the damage and the type of leather (textured saffiano) involved in this case, the best course of action was to replace the leather entirely.
This process involved peeling off the heel caps and then using a specialist solvent to carefully remove the leather from around the heel blocks and clean the inner blocks themselves — to remove the old glue and any accumulated dirt.
We then selected a matching black saffiano leather and cut from it two pieces based on the size and shape of the original pieces. We glued these carefully around the original blocks, pressing the leather firmly to ensure a smooth finish. We finally screwed the heel blocks back on to the footbeds, as they were originally.
