The bag
The leather binding around the sides of this Louis Vuitton Popincourt bag were heavily worn and dry — as is common when worn vachetta leather is not conditioned to keep it nourished and healthy. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to replace the leather binding on both sides of the bag with new, tanned vachetta leather.
Leather binding replacement
We began by carefully unpicking the damaged binding along both sides of the bag. We then prepared two strips of leather in the same width and length of the original binding — these were cut from a fresh hide of tanned vachetta leather in a shade similar to the rest of the leather around this bag. We then carefully stitched these leather bindings into place around the sides of the bag. In doing this, we kept in place the original leather tabs at the end of each piece of binding, as these tabs are riveted into place with original Louis Vuitton rivets (which can break when removed and are otherwise difficult to replace).
