These Maison Magiela Tabi mid-heel pumps were well looked after, but the leather around one of the heel blocks had been severely chewed up by a dog. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote we offered to remove the damaged leather and re-cover both heel blocks with entirely new leather.

Heel block re-covering

We began by separating the heel blocks from the uppers — we did this by getting underneath the insoles inside the shoes and then pulling out the screws by which the heel blocks were affixed to the uppers. We then used a solvent to loosen and remove the leather adhered to the sides of the heel blocks and pulled away the worn rubber heel caps at the base of each heel block.

We then selected a piece of premium black leather like the original and cut to size two pieces of this leather, based on the size and shape of the original leather we had peeled off the heel blocks. We then carefully adhered this new leather into place and then installed a new pair of durable rubber heel caps and finally re-secured the restored heel blocks to the uppers.
