The shoes

These Salvatore Ferragamo F-Heel sandals were in near-new condition, but the leather around one of the heels blocks was chewed apart by a dog. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote we offered to re-cover the heel block with new leather.

Heel block re-covering

We began by removing the damaged heel block completely from the upper of the shoe. We then peeled away the damaged leather from around the heel block, and removed the heel tip. We cleaned the block itself of the old glue and accumulated dirt / debris. This allowed us to then cleanly wrap new leather around the heel block before reattaching the heel tip.

Leathers are often impossible to match perfectly, as in this case. So while the leather we used to re-wrap the damaged heel block in this case was not a perfect match, we were able to custom mix a colour based on the unique colour of these shoes and use that to recolour / refinish the new leather.

The result was a fresh-looking pair of shoes, with no readily visible signs of prior damage to the leather around the heel blocks.
