The shoes
These Christian Louboutin Dandelion loafers were essentially brand new, having been worn only once, but the original leather soles were unprotected and so likely to quickly lose their red colour and eventually wear down so much that the shoes would become irreparable. When this customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to protect the shoes with a pair of thin protective rubber soles.
Protective rubber soles
We started off by sanding down the existing leather soles slightly, in order that the new rubber soles to be added over the top do not increase the height of the soles so much. We then glued down the new rubber soles, slicing them at their ends so that they sat flush with the rest of the original leather soles closer to the heels, and sanding them down around the edges to match the shape of the old soles.
The protective rubber soles we used are high-quality Vibram soles. They are thin (about as thin as a 10 cent coin), red in colour (being made especially for Louboutins) and blend in well with the rest of the shoes, without affecting the original silhouette.
We generally recommend that the leather soles on Louboutin shoes are protected with these rubber soles. The original leather soles quickly lose their colour — leaving behind a raw leather colour that leaves the shoes looking heavily worn — and tend to wear down very quickly, to the point where the structure of the shoes is irreversibly damaged and incapable of repair. The rubber soles don’t lose their colour, offer far greater grip than the original leather soles and they are hard-wearing, so you can rest assured that they won’t need replacing for a long time.
