This Bally handbag had a shoulder strap that was a little too short given the customer’s height. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, seeking a longer strap, we offered to lengthen the existing strap.
Strap lengthening
Although we could have replaced the strap with an entirely new, longer strap, the best course of action in this case was to extend the existing strap — due to the unique type of leather on the strap that matched that on the bag.
We cut the existing strap in its centre and then custom cut a new piece of leather that would slot into the gap — the length of this new piece was measured to match the width of the existing strap as well as the customer’s desired total strap length. In order to achieve a clean, flush finish between the ends of the new and old pieces of leather, we finely sliced the ends at a gradient and then glued and stitched the pieces together.
