The bag
The strap on this Saint Laurent College bag was torn, and the leather around the bottom corners and the edges of the flap was worn through. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to replace the strap and restore the damaged leather.
Strap replacement
While the strap was only torn at one end, the leather along the rest of the strap was weak and at risk of tearing with continued wear. With this in mind, the best option was to replace the strap now, rather than attempting to repair it.
We began by carefully removing the original strap. We then selected high-quality leather that closely matched the texture of the original strap, crafted from that a new strap following the design of the original, and finally stitched this strap into place around the adjacent chain links.
Leather restoration
In this case, the leather around the base and sides of the flap was worn, through the leather’s outer layer and leaving the white inner backing material visible underneath. We used a specialist leather filler to seal up and smooth around these tears / gaps in the leather — we did this after cleaning and conditioning the leather and before proceeding to recolour / refinish the surrounding leather.
