The handbag
This Prada Vitello Daino tote handbag was designed as a carryall with a soft pebbled leather for flexibility and a strong brass zipper to keep everything safe inside the bag. However, the zipper had torn — specifically at those points where the zipper curves and therefore comes under the most pressure while the zipper is being opened and closed. When this customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to remove the torn zipper and replace it with an entirely new one.
Zipper replacement
We started off by unpicking the stitching that held the old zipper in place. We then sourced a suitable replacement brass zipper, essentially identical to the existing and adjusted it to match the length of the original zipper. We then glued one size of the new zipper to each side of the bag, in place of the old zipper, before stitching the zipper into place.
With the new zipper set, we removed the original Prada runner (the metal piece that runs along the zipper’s teeth) and zipper pull (which is used to pull the runner along the zipper’s teeth) and installed it onto the new zipper.
