The bag
The vachetta leather throughout this Louis Vuitton Neverfull bag was looking worn, with the one of the side straps torn, and the rest of the leather dried out and cracking. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to replace the vachetta leather with fresh parts.
Vachetta leather strap and binding replacement
We began by carefully unstitching the worn leather handles and binding, and removing the side straps. We then selected a fresh hide of vachetta leather, and started to craft the new pieces, using the originals as templates. Once the replacement pieces were ready, we stitched the binding into place around the top of the bag, and stitched the handles into place through the existing stitching holes in the canvas. We also installed the new side straps. While we often use tanned vachetta leather, we opted for a fresh vachetta in this case, which gives the bag an as-new look and allows the leather to gradually develop a unique patina over time.
