The boots
These Jimmy Choo Maiara 90 ankle boots come with protective rubber pieces that sit well within the perimeter of the soles and are depressed, leaving the leather around the edges of those soles unprotected. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to install rubber sole protectors covering the whole front half of each sole on 2 identical pairs of boots.
Sole protector installation
We started by creating a ‘heel bed’, sanding down the original soles slightly so that we could install thin sole protectors that would sit flush with the rest of the leather soles at their ends — and therefor maintain a low profile that does not affect the silhouette of the boots.
On the first pair, we used a French-made Topy rubber sole protectors in black — these have matte finish with a light tread for extra traction.
On the second pair, we used an Italian-made Casali nude sole with a silk (leather-like) finish. Both are made from highly durable rubber, ensuring that the boots can be freely worn without damaging the core of the original leather soles or eventually wearing into the body of the shoes.
