The sandals

The rubber heel caps and leather soles on these Hermès Santorini sandals were heavily worn. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to replace the heel caps and also to repair and protect the soles.

Protective sole installation

While the soles on these shoes were heavily worn, repair (rather than replacement) was the best option here in order to preserve the aesthetic of the shoes. We began by carefully sanding down the leather surface to smooth and re-contour it and create a slight depression in which the sole protectors could be installed and sit flush with the rest of the leather.

We then carefully installed a pair of half-length rubber sole protectors. For these shoes, we chose a premium, black rubber with a silk finish. These are made by Casali in Italy, and they offer far greater longevity and grip than leather soles alone.

To further freshen up the leather soles further back we proceeded to re-dye the leather to a matte black colour consistent with the sole protectors.

Full rubber reheel

We began by pulling the worn heel caps from the heel blocks. We then selected a pair of rubber heel caps, and adhered them into place at the base of each heel block. We used full rubber heel caps in this case, as they tend to be significantly more durable than the combination leather + rubber heel caps originally on the shoes and they also maintain their colour while worn.
