The sneakers
The leather on one of these Golden Goose Super-Star sneakers had been chewed up by a dog, and the rubber soles were worn. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to repair the chewed leather and resole the sneakers.
Chewed leather repair
The leather around the back of the shoe was too far gone to save in this case, so the best option was to install a patch around the tear, to seal up and conceal the tear and to reinforce the leather around it against further damage. We began by selecting a sturdy, smooth leather for the patch, which we cut into shape by following the design of the undamaged shoe.
We then stitched the patch into place around the back of the shoe, creating stitching lines around the bottom and half-way point of the patch, as in the original design. Finally, we custom mixed a pink colour as close as we could get to the original, and used that to recolour the patch.
Resole
Golden Goose shoes are designed with an intentionally distressed look that is popular in streetwear fashion, but the soles tend to wear down fairly quickly due to their low-profile design. We began by repairing the soles, rebuilding them where they had be worn into around the back. Once the soles were level, we installed a new pair of full-length rubber soles over the top. The new soles have a slightly different tread as compared with the original soles, and are visible from the sides (as an additional layer of rubber), but they are made of a highly durable rubber that significantly enhances the longevity of the shoes and they help to protect the original soles (which are otherwise irreplaceable) from further wear.
