The Church's Oslo Gibson shoes are a premium pair with leather soles and quarter leather heels supported by a Goodyear welted construction designed for comfort and longevity. However, even the most durable leather soles and heels rarely last long — and certainly do not last anywhere near as long as quality rubber soles and heels. In this case, the leather soles had worn through entirely to the cork / welt.
When this customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, noting his desire to ensure longevity, we offered to repair the existing Goodyear welt and then re-sole and re-heel the shoes with rubber instead of leather.
Rubber re-sole and re-heel
We firstly ensured that the welt was repaired by filling those areas where the cork had worn through. This is crucial as a firm welt helps to protect the interior of the shoe from water and enables future re-soling.
We then applyied a premium Topy half rubber sole, which is about as thin as a 20¢ coin but extremely durable, as well as a similarly durable Topy rubber heel.
