The boots

These Scarpa SL Active hiking boots were in great shape, but the soles had deteriorated after a long spell in the wardrobe, with the midsoles crumbling away. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to perform a full resole, replacing the old soles with a new pair of original Scarpa soles made by Vibram.

The midsoles on these boots were cracking and breaking apart due to hydrolysis — a chemical process that unfortunately causes midsoles like these, being made from polyurethane, to gradually break down with age and even in storage.

We carefully removed the old soles from the uppers, thoroughly cleaned around the bottom of each boot, to remove the old glue and the crumbling midsole material, and used a special machine to securely press the soles (and particularly the sidewalls) firmly into place. We used a new pair of original Scarpa soles made by Vibram in this case, giving the boots fresh soles that matched the originals.
