The shoes
The heel caps and soles on these John Lobb double monk shoes were heavily worn. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to perform a full resole, replacing the soles and heels with premium JR leather parts.
Full JR Leather resole
These shoes were Goodyear-welted — i.e. constructed with strips of leather between the outer soles and the uppers (the ‘welts’) that make replacement of the soles a relatively simple process. We began by removing the heel blocks and unstitching the soles from the welt.
Once these parts were removed, we stitched a new pair of JR leather soles into place. We then re-attached the heel blocks and replaced the heel caps with a pair of matching JR dovetail heel caps. These are made from a combination of leather and rubber, with the rubber portions strategically positioned where the heels wear down the fastest.
These JR parts are made in Germany from oak bark tanned leather and generally preferred by owners of high-end dress shoes for their excellent durability as compared with regular leather soles.
