The wallet
This blue Prada Saffiano leather wallet looked as great as it did when it was purchased. But the closure had broken and sometimes a colour change just makes sense, with something so simple as a new colour allowing us to feel as though we’re carrying an entirely new accessory. When this customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to change the colour of the leather throughout the exterior of the wallet from blue to black.
Leather cleaning, conditioning and colour change
We started off by cleaning and conditioning the leather, to remove any impurities on the surface as well as nourish the leather. This effectively ensured the leather would fully absorb the black dye, which we then proceeded to carefully apply — in multiple coats for the best results, particularly because the saffiano leather is not as porous and inviting to dyes as other leathers.
Button closure repair
We were able to source a suitable replacement for the ‘female’ piece of the button closure and install that in place of the missing piece. In order to do this cleanly and securely, we undo the stitching just above and then slot in the hardware between the leather panels before re-sealing and re-stitching them.
