The shoes
The soles on these Ecco Soft 7 GTZ Tie sneakers were heavily worn, with a large split across the ball of one foot. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to replace the soles with entirely new ones custom made from scratch to fit the shoes.
Sole replacement
These shoes (like most ECCO shoes) were constructed with soles especially made to fit the shoes on which they were installed. These are moulded cup soles that are adhered into place around the bottom and lower sides of the shoes. While these types of soles are of course well suited to the shoes when first installed, their replacement is relatively complicated.
We started by completely removing the old soles and cleaning away from the base of the uppers the old glue and accumulated dirt and debris. We then stitched into place on the base of the uppers a new pair of rubber midsoles — a layer of flat rubber onto which new rubber outer soles with a light tread were then adhered (and can be replaced as needed). This work typically leaves a narrow gap between the uppers and midsoles and the rubber sidewalls (the part of the old soles that extended up the sides of the shoes) missing. So we adhered into place a strip of rubber, known as a ‘rand’, around the sides of the shoes, sealing that gap and reinforcing the new mid- and outer-soles.
