The bag

This vintage Chanel bag had no lining, with the bag’s original lining having been removed for an unknown reason. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to re-create the missing lining, crafting it from scratch with fresh leather.

Lining replacement

We started off by sketching out the lining on paper, drawing the required pieces based on our knowledge of the construction of vintage Chanel bag linings. With these drawings produced, we proceeded to cut leather pieces from a strong, durable piece of red leather matching the original colour (which remained underneath the front flap) and carefully stitching them together. We also stitched into one of these leather pieces a zipper with an attached leather pocket — thus recreating the bag’s original inner zipped pocket. With the new lining created outside the bag, the next step was to stitch the lining into the bag itself, following the original stitching lines.
