The boots
The soles on these Blundstone Chelsea boots were disintegrating and in need of replacement. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to perform a full resole, replacing the old soles with new, custom-made soles alongside new midsoles and rand.
Full resole
The original soles on these boots are specially made for the boots and moulded to fit the uppers. This makes Blundstone boots relatively complicated (as compared to boots with Goodyear-welted / stitched soles) to resole.
We began by removing the soles, being careful to avoid damaging the leather uppers while doing so. We then installed rand around the sides of the footbeds on each boot and stitched firmly into place a pair of full-length midsoles. This gave us a stable base against which we could then bond a pair of full-length rubber outer soles. In this case, we used a pair of Goodyear One soles with a tread pattern similar to that on the original soles.
The new soles were not identical to the existing, but they were custom made to fit the boots just as well as the original soles did and the new construction (in particular, with the installation of rand and midsoles) sets these boots up for a significantly extended life — with future resoles as needed being far easier and economical.
