The boots

The soles on these RM Williams boots had broken off around the toes. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to repair the soles by replacing the ‘toe pieces’ — or the tips of the soles, around the toes.

Toe piece repair

We cut the existing soles about 1–2 inches back from their tips and then custom-cut new pieces of rubber to fit the gaps before glueing and stitching them in place. We did this on both boots (even though only one of the boots’ soles was damaged) for consistency, and careful shaping of the toe pieces ensured that they sat flush with the rest of the soles, such that the toe piece repair was not readily visible. Moreover, the stitching of the toe pieces directly into the welt (the material that sits between the soles and the leather uppers) ensured the soles were strong.

Although we generally recommend standard or full re-soles on RM Williams boots for repairs that offer the greatest longevity, toe piece repairs nevertheless offer a suitable and cost-effective option in many cases where the soles are otherwise not too damaged or worn.
