The boots
These RM Williams Craftsman boots were mauled by a playful pup, who managed to tear off a chunk of leather and a pull tab from around the back of the boot. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to repair the damaged leather and replaced the missing pull tab.
Torn leather repair
Because a large piece of leather was missing, the best option here was to install a leather patch around the top of the boot. We began by selecting a piece of leather similar to the original leather on the boot, and cutting a leather patch slightly larger than the tear. We then carefully stitched the patch into place, following the existing stitching lines where possible.
The customer opted for a cheaper option here, simply stitching the new leather patch into place. For customers who prefer a more seamless repair, further work can be performed with a view to minimising the visibility of the patch — in particular, using a matching leather alongside a specialist leather filler to smooth the leather around the join between the old and new leather as much as possible.
Pull tab replacement
We began by carefully unstitching the adjacent seams and removing what was left of the old pull tab. We then adhered the new RM Williams pull tab securely between the two layer of leather, before re-stitching the seams along the original stitching holes.
