The wallet
This Hermès Constance long wallet was in need of a refresh, with the hardware scratched and the leather stained and lacking its original lustre. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to polish and re-plate the hardware and then change the colour of the leather to a midnight blue.
Hardware polishing and re-plating
We began by lightly polishing the ‘H’ clasp to buff out the surface scratches as much as possible. Polishing before the re-plating process also helps to provide an even base on which the new silver plating can be applied. Once the hardware was polished, we proceeded to re-plate the clasp — this involved applying to the metal a specialist agent, which when combined with an electric current, deposits a layer of silver on the surface of the metal wherever it is applied.
Leather colour change
We began by thoroughly cleaning and conditioning the leather throughout the interior and exterior of the wallet to remove any surface dirt / debris and prepare the leather for recolouring. This helps to ensure the new colour is smooth, consistent and free from any streaks or dry patches.
After applying the colour in several light layers, we sealed the leather with a finishing agent to protect the colour and prevent any transfer.
