The boots

These Dr. Martens 1460 Mono boots were looking good, except the soles had become flat and lost their grip over time. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to perform a resole, replacing the worn soles with an entirely new pair of highly durable rubber soles.

Full resole

We began by removing the existing soles all the way up to the midsole (with the stitching around the sides). While Dr. Martens boots are welted (the layer of material between the soles and uppers — where soles can be stitched into place), they are not done so in a traditional way — the midsoles and outer soles are fused together with heat. Because of this, the soles on Dr. Martens boots cannot be partially replaced. They need to be fully resoled.

With the old soles removed, we adhered into place a new pair of Goodyear rubber soles, carefully sanding them down at the sides to fit the shape of the boots. While the new soles aren’t identical to the original Airwair soles, they are solid (rather than hollow) and made of higher grade rubber that offers enhanced durability and grip.
