The handbag
While this Chanel handbag looked great after years of regular use, the hardware with which the bag was closed shut had broken — with one of the pieces that locked into the other having snapped off, leaving the bag without a functioning closing mechanism. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to replace the broken hardware.
Hardware replacement
The process involved in replacing the hardware on this bag was a little complicated. Since the broken original Chanel piece could not be replaced, both pieces comprising the closure mechanism needed to be replaced — so that they fit each other. Also, the hardware is installed cleanly through the lining, rather than glued on, meaning that replacing the hardware would involve having to undo the leather before replacing the hardware.
And that is what we did here. We cleanly undid the stitches through the leather around the leather panels to which the hardware was attached, we removed the old hardware and then installed the new hardware — a new magnetic press stud — before re-stitching the leather back together.
The original Chanel logo hardware on the outer side of the front flap remained where it was, untouched.
