The shoes
The glittery uppers on these Jimmy Choo Misty 120 shoes were discoloured, and the leather soles were worn and unprotected. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to restore the glitter and to repair and protect the soles.
Glitter restoration
We began by cleaning and conditioning the shoes. This allowed us to remove accumulated dirt and impurities from the surface of the leather in preparation for the restoration work. In this case, the glitter around the toes and the back of the shoes was discoloured and missing entirely in some spots, so a full restoration was not possible through cleaning alone.
We then sourced custom mixed glitters to produce a new glitter that matched the leather’s original finish. We then applied a clear adhesive to the leather and carefully covered the shoes with the new glitter, ensuring any gaps were filled, and the underlying leather was entirely concealed. Finally, we brushed the leather thoroughly to get rid of as much of the excess glitter as possible.
Protective sole installation
The leather soles with which these shoes were originally made are fairly prone to accelerated wear and tear and so we were quite heavily worn in this case. However, they fortunately were not too far gone. We were able to repair the leather, rebuilding the leather where it was most heavily worn and re-contouring the surface before installing a pair of thin rubber sole protectors over the top.
These soles protectors are made with a premium, smooth finish and a nude colour that blends in well with the original soles. And they help to not only reinforce the repair to the original soles but they also significantly enhance the durability of the soles and their anti-slip features drastically improve traction / grip for the wear.
