The bag
The leather on this vintage Gucci bag was sagging, shapeless and stained after a serious hand sanitiser spill. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to reconstruct the bag with fresh leather panels in the same colour.
Bag reconstruction
In this case, we were not able to restore the bag by strengthening the original leather — the hand sanitiser had damaged the integrity of the leather to the point where it could not be revived. Instead, we needed to replace the damaged panels with entirely new leather — leaving in place the main flap with the embossed Gucci branding. We began by unstitching the original leather panels across the front and back of the bag by hand. Having laid them flat, we measured the shape and size of each panel, in order to cut replicas of these panels from new leather. We then stitched these panels into place, carefully re-creating the bag’s original design.
