These Ferragamo Varina Ballet flats were well-looked after, but the gold hardware on the Vara bows had become heavily tarnished and discoloured. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to polished and replated the hardware.

Hardware polishing and re-plating

We started off by cleaning the hardware and polishing the hardware. This allowed us buff away the tarnishing and lighter scratches in the hardware, though it was important to do so only very lightly, so as to avoid removing too much of the metal’s outer layer.

We then proceeded to replate the metal to restore its original gold colour. This involved using special equipment that allows us to bond thin layers of 24k gold on the surface of the metal, and then specially sealing the hardware to protect it going forward.
